HMRC is on record for stating that it wants to ensure that everyone pays the maximum “right amount of tax” so it is getting tough with non-compliant taxpayers and rapidly increasing the powers of Tax Inspectors. No one can afford to be complacent.

Tax enquiries, inspections or investigations in areas such as PAYE/NIC, VAT, Corporation Tax or Personal Tax can disrupt and seriously damage a business.

Compared to tax enquiries and inspections, which are generally straightforward, self assessment investigations can be quite detailed as well as intrusive. The results for those who have deliberately concealed information can be a large fine or prison. In most cases tax investigations begin when HMRC has reasons to believe that some of the aspects of your business accounts or tax return are wrong.

A number of tax returns are also selected by HMRC for random investigations each year. HMRC will contact you to inform you that your company or personal affairs are being investigated, although the reasons for the investigation will normally not be provided. In most cases these investigations would be handled by the Local Tax Inspectors with special experience and training. These inspectors are well versed in investigations to know which taxpayers have underpaid taxes.

BAS can help you with all your tax affairs. We can assist with tax investigations and negotiate directly with HMRC to ensure that tax, interest charges and penalties are minimised. If you are being investigated or think you may have a tax problem call us or complete our online enquiry form now for a FREE initial consultation.

We can also help businesses that are currently facing loss of earnings and interruption due to an investigation. We will guide you through the process and help you minimize the negative effects of the investigation on your business.

Income verifications or confirmations are required when people are applying for borrowing, mortgage or loans of any kind. A letter would be required by the lender that would support the documents provided by the applicant.

The letter would have to be carefully prepared in order to avoid liabilities which may result in a loss to the lender because of loan fraud. Such a letter would also be required for home office purposes to support visa applications or to confirm the financial position of potential tenants.

BAS can fulfil such requests and we will provide a letter of confirmation once a client has undergone rigorous checks to assess their credit worthiness.
